 The "Beast" was constructed in the shops of the University of Pittsburgh Theater Arts Department. Here, Venise and I mount one of the three "dragon" heads for a trial run of its flexible neck. Designer Tavia LaFollette looks on.  Draping the colorful, translucent skin on the back of the Beast's skeleton. Most of these photos were taken by Jesha Chen, who also assisted with construction.  Reassembling the Beast on location underneath the Convention Center  Tavia's husband Gary steadies a ladder.   In the Parade. Animating the rolling puppet required five operators, led by Tavia. Yes, it was raining. Fortunately not too cold. |
